This may be the first time you have considered getting help and you have concerns about the appropriateness or value of professional counseling. If this is your situation, it could be helpful to review the questions many people ask before making and appointment.
How long will I have to wait for an appointment? Usually a first appointment can be made in five to ten day. back to top
How long is a session? Sessions last approximately 45 to 50 minutes depending on the counselor. back to top
How often and how long will I need to come for sessions? You and your counselor will determine this. It could be weekly or biweekly. The severity of the problem and how hard you are willing to work at your problem will determine the length of time you will need counseling. back to top
Is your counseling Bible based? Yes, your counselor will use the best psychological approach along with what God's Word says to help you with your problems. The Bible will be the final word. back to top
Do you accept insurance? We do not file any insurance claims. You will be given a Super Bill, which you can send into your provider. It is your responsibility to check if Dan Boen, Ph.D. is on the provider list. back to top
When do I need to pay for my session? Payment is to be made the same day as services are rendered. back to top
Talk? I can talk to a friend for free? Why pay someone? You are quite right. If you have a wise and understanding friend who is willing to listen to your problems, you may not need professional help at all. But often that's not enough. You may need a professionally trained person to help you uncover what is really bothering you. Your friend probably does not have these skills. back to top
How can talking make problems disappear? When you are talking to someone who has professional training and has helped many others with problems similar to yours, that person is able to see the patterns in your life that have led to your unhappiness. In therapy, the job is to help you recognize those patterns---and you try to change them. There are times when you may need a combination of therapy and medicine. back to top
